Akbar, AR Rupee, Sitpur, IE 47, Mihr
Additional word ‘Darb’ inscribed on reverse. In the Ain-i-Akbari, Abul Fazal mentions that the word ‘Darb’ refers to the denomination of ½ Rupee. In his 47th Regnal year, Akbar is known to have issued coins from Agra with the denominational value inscribed upon the coin. The design of this coin certainly attempts to follow the trend of the Agra issues, with its superb execution, elaborate borders and eight-pointed star enclosing the reverse legend - in spite of the fact that the denomination appears to be wrong.
