AH 1131 / AD 1719
Rafi-ud-Darajat was the 12th Mughal Emperor of India, reigning for a very short period from February to June in 1719. He was the son of Rafi-ush-Shan and became emperor at the age of 19 after the downfall of Farrukhsiyar. Rafi-ud-Darajat's reign was marked by political instability and power struggles within the Mughal court.
During his brief rule, Rafi-ud-Darajat was largely controlled by his prime minister, the Sayyid Brothers, who were influential nobles in the Mughal administration. Rafi-ud-Darajat died under mysterious circumstances after only a few months on the throne, making his reign one of the shortest in Mughal history. His death paved the way for the ascension of his younger brother, Shah Jahan III, as the next Mughal emperor. Rafi-ud-Darajat's reign further contributed to the chaotic political situation in the declining Mughal Empire during the early 18th century.
