This coin corresponds with the place and date of the death of Mumtaz Mahal, the chief consort of Shah Jahan, for whom the Emperor built the famous Taj Mahal in Agra. The Empress Consort died in Burhanpur (present-day Madhya Pradesh) in AH 1040, while giving birth to her fourteenth child. She was initially buried in Burhanpur, before her grave was moved to the Taj Mahal in Agra. Her children include the future Emperor Aurangzeb and his brothers Dara Shikhoh, Murad Bakhsh and Shah Shuja.
