Zamin wa Aasmaan Couplet. Persian inscription in fine nastaliq script, obv. Muhr Mihr Shah Akbar abrui in zar ashat, zarb Agra which translates to “The sun of the stamp of Shah Akbar is the glory of this gold, Mint Agra”; rev. ta zamin wa asman ra muhr anwar zewar asht which translates to “While earth and sky are illuminated by the shining sun”. It is Akbar the Great who is credited with introducing poetic couplets on coins. Three different poetic couplets are known on Akbar’s gold coins and three more are found on silver.
