In the 30th year of Akbar’s reign, the Emperor founded the Din-i-Ilahi and changed the system of coinage to this effect where the Kalima was replaced with a new legend. However, after the first batch of coins were struck, an error was noticed in that the die engraver forgot to inscribe the regnal year on the coin. Thus these coins were recalled and counter stamped with a ‘30’ indicating the Ilahi Year. This specimen is one of the few, rare pieces that survived the recall and bears no counter stamp. It is the earliest coin of the Ilahi era of Akbar and an important relic of the short-lived Din-i-Ilahi.
