Humayun, AR Shahrukhi, Agra, date-off
This type is known to have been struck in AH 947. Perhaps the rarest of all ‘Indian mint’ Shahrukhis of Humayun. AH 947 begins on 8 May 1540. Humayun was defeated by Sher Shah Suri for a final time at Bilgram near Qanauj on 17-18 May 1540. He then fled to the West very quickly and Sher Shah advanced on Agra to occupy the city. This coin is struck in the short window of about 15 days around these historic events.
