Concerned about the growing strength of the Afghans in Bihar and parts of Bengal under Sher Khan Suri, Humayun launched a campaign against them. He captured Chunar and subsequently occupied Lakhnauti spending around nine months in Bengal. During this time, he struck silver coins of two different standards - the older Tanka standard and the newer rupee standard – both with the inscription ‘Adl Bangalah to suggest they were struck on the standard current in Bengal. The tankas struck in this short while, like this coin, are much rarer than the rupees.
