Shah Jahan, AR Rupee, Katak, AH 1050, Muharram
Kalima type, struck in the Arabic month of ‘Muharram’, visible on reverse. The usual tradition on Mughal coinage was to inscribe the name of Persian months. However, the Katak mint in a unique occurrence issued coins with the Hijri month. Coins of ‘Muharram’, ‘Rajab’, ‘Shawwal’ and ‘Safar’ are known and are all exceedingly rare.
