Aurangzeb, AR Rupee, Karnatak, AH 1099, RY 3X
Mint name fully visible at bottom, AH 1099, RY 3X, ‘Badre Munir’ couplet. Obv: Sikka Zad Dar Jahan Chu Badre Munir Shah Aurangzeb Alamgir. Rev: Sanah 3X Julus, Zarb Karnatak. After the Mughal conquest of the Adil Shahi domains of Southern India, the territories were divided into two ‘Subahs’ (provinces): Bijapur Karnatak and Hyderabad Karnatak. This mint-name on particular coin refers to the province as a whole and not a particular location. However, it is opined that the coins may have been struck at either Sira or Karpa due to stylistic similarities.
