Akbar, AR Rupee, Akbarnagar, IE 50, Tir
The name 'Akbarnagar' was given to Rajmahal now in West Bengal in 1595 when Man Singh, the trusted general of Akbar decided to make it the administrative capital of Bengal following the conquest of Orissa. Man Singh constructed a new city here which, according to Abu'l Fazl, a 'choice city and was given the name Akbarnagar'. Man Singh wanted to name it as 'Rajanagar' after himself, but Akbar objected - and thus the name was 'Akbarnagar'. Although the city was founded in 1595, coinage appears to have commenced nearly ten years later.
