Jahangir, AR Rupee, Rohtas, RY 19, Aban
There are two 'Rohtas' in the Indian Subcontinent - one in the Punjab (now in Pakistan) and the other in Bihar. The coins are attributed to the Fort in Bihar on stylistic grounds. They are very similar to the issues of Patna mint in style and fabric. The Fort of Rohtas became a stronghold of Prince Khurram in rebellion against his father who by this time was sinking steadily into the clutches of Noor Jahan and his vice of opium. The rebellion ended with a reconciliation in AH1035, RY21 when Khurram agreed to hand over Rohtas fort back to his father. In 1624/RY19, Khurram's wife Mumtaz Mahal born a male child to him at Rohtas. He was Murad Bakhsh. The celebrations of his birth continued for a long time and were a costly affair. It is plausible that the coins might have been issued around this occasion.
