Humayun, AR Shahrukhi, Assam, AH 942
AH (94)2, 4.68gms, one of only two known examples. The central royal legend is ‘Muhammad Humayun Padishah Ghazi Sayyid al-Salâtin’. Humayun is the only ruler apart from Aurangzeb whose coins are known from Assam. This coin serves as proof of Mughal presence in the furthest reaches of East India during his rule. Humayun’s military forces did enter into Assam, and this coin was perhaps a regular Mughal issue, but more likely a local issue accepting Mughal authority. The coarse calligraphy suggests the latter.
