The coinage of Jahangir shows a number of innovations and in the series of the Mughal coins attained the highest level of excellence and artistic merit. On the accession of Jahangir the weight of the rupee, for a number of mints, was increased with 20% (Jahangiri) and somewhat later with 25% (Sawai). Due to inconvenience in trade the weight of the rupee was consequently reduced to its original standard. At Agra during alternate months rupees were struck in square and round shape using the Ilahi era.
Farwardin (round), Ardibihisht (square), Khurdad (round), Tir (square), Amardad (round), Shahrewar (square), Mihr (round), Aban (square), Azar (round), Di (square), Bahman (round) and Isfandarmuz (square).
