Alamgir II, AR Rupee, Dar-ul-Khilafat Shahjahanabad, AH 1168/2, Kalima type
Aurangzeb (Alamgir I) had stopped the practise of inscribing the Kalima – the Islamic expression of faith on coins, under a religious pretext. Alamgir II temporarily resumed this practise many years later. Thus, this coin represents the resurrection of the Kalima in Mughal numismatics. However, the experiment was rather short-lived.
