Coins of this type are part of the series in which Alamgir II briefly reinstated the Islamic Kalima as an inscription on coins; a practice abolished by his namesake Alamgir I (Aurangzeb). These coins are generally only known from the mint of Shahjahanabad. Only two pieces – including this coin – are presently known from Murshidabad. The other resides in the collection of Münzkabinett (Bode Museum) in Berlin, Germany.
