Ginji, Chinji/ Sinji Fort was built by Feudatories of Vijaynagar Empire/ Ginji Nayaka’s. Due to its strategic importance Maratha’s under Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured the Fort from Bijapur Sultanate during southern expedition of Maratha’s. Chatrapati Raja Ram escaped from Raigadh and shifted the Swaraj Capital to Fort Ginji. In 1691 Fort was besieged by Mughal generals Zulfikar Khan, Asad Khan & Kam Baksh. Fort was bravely defended for 7 Years by great Maratha Sardar Santaji Ghorpade. The fort was finally captured by Mughals in 1698, but not before Chhatrapati Rajaram escaped from there. Coin struck here are historically important. The mintname is written as Chanjee.
