Jahangir ascended the throne on 8 Jumada-II 1014 (11 October 1605), which corresponds to 6 Aban Ilahi-50, upon the death of his father, Akbar. Upon his accesion, the mints at Ahmedabad and Kabul issued coins in his Princely name Salim, from Aban 50 (Akbar's 50th Regnal Year) to Tir RY 2. This nine-month issue is regarded as a 'pre-accession' issue, before coins in his chosen imperial name 'Jahangir' begin appearing for these mints. Ahmedabad was given as a personal fief to Prince Salim and hence why they could have used his princely name for coins struck there.
