Shah Jahan, AR 1/4 Rupee, Baldat Burhanpur, AH 1040, RY 3, 'Nisar'

Nisar coinage was struck during special occasions for charitable purposes. It is largesse coinage meant for scattering.

In AH 1040, Shah Jahan's favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal, for whom the Taj Mahal was built, died during childbirth in Burhanpur. It is possible that this coin was struck during her funeral services as a charitable excercise - since this was one of the known reasons for Nisar coins to be struck.
