Nisar coins are named for their main purpose, i.e. scattering into the crowd by royalty. They were minted for occasions that demanded ceremonial generosity or largesse, like at investitures, weddings or grand entrances. These coins were particularly lightweight, and are usually fractions of rupees. Special coins were minted for this purpose.
